During Fall Quarter 2019, I was a Peer Learning Facilitator (PLF) with the Academic Advancement Program (AAP) at UCLA for the Physics 1B course. This website contains materials for my problem-solving sessions and review sessions.
Worksheets:
Here are the worksheets for my sessions. The worksheets correspond to chapters in University Physics with Modern Physics.
- Worksheet 1 Exercises / Worksheet 1 Solutions (Chapter 14)
- Worksheet 2 Exercises / Worksheet 2 Solutions (Chapter 15)
- Worksheet 3 Exercises / Worksheet 3 Solutions (Chapter 16)
- Worksheet 4 Exercises / Worksheet 4 Solutions (Chapter 21)
- Worksheet 5 Exercises / Worksheet 5 Solutions (Chapter 22)
- Worksheet 6 Exercises / Worksheet 6 Solutions (Chapter 23)
- Worksheet 7 Exercises / Worksheet 7 Solutions (Chapter 24)
- Worksheet 8 Exercises / Worksheet 8 Solutions (Chapter 25)
- Worksheet 9 Exercises / Worksheet 9 Solutions (Chapter 26)
- Worksheet 10 Exercises / Worksheet 10 Solutions (Chapter 12)
Midterm 1:
The review session took place at 6-8pm on Friday October 25 at PAB 1-425.
You can expect the midterm to be a mix of conceptual (45%) and 3 more involved questions (55%). These practice midterms are mostly involved questions and are harder than the midterm. In particular, don’t worry too much about the last problem on each.
Midterm 2:
The review session took place at 6-8pm on Friday November 15 at PAB 1-425.
You can expect the midterm to be a mix of conceptual (45%) and 2 more involved questions (55%). These practice midterms are mostly involved questions and are harder and than the midterm. In particular, these problems are pretty intricate, so don’t worry too much about how long they take.

- Practice Midterm 2B / Solutions
Final:
Final review session took place at 6:30-8:30pm on Sunday December 8 at Kinsey 1200.
The final is cumulative, and you can expect it to be a mix of 11 conceptual/short answer questions (33%) and 6 involved questions (67%). You can expect at least one Kirchoff’s Laws type question and at least one Bernoulli’s type question, as well as questions similar to the midterms.
These practice finals are written to reflect this. I’ve tried to make them fun, so enjoy! The practice finals are both twenty questions, and should take about four hours to complete if you can maintain focus for that long. A few questions require you to make conceptual leaps of the sort that you would be expected to make on the final. These are longer than the actual final.
- For optimal studying, I would say there is a fine line between knowing as much as you can, and being as well rested as possible: the exam is cumulative and will test a lot of material, but it will also be draining and you will need to be alert in the third hour
- Practice Final A / Solutions, A16 Solution
- Practice Final B / Solutions

Logistics:
This quarter I will have PLF sessions for Physics 1B:
- Section 1: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00a-11:30a at Campbell Hall 1201, Table 8 (Map, courtesy of Johan Cristobal)
- Section 2: Monday and Wednesday from 5:00p-6:30p at Campbell Hall 1101, Table 4 (Monday) and Mediascape 1 (Wednesday) (Map, courtesy of Johan Cristobal)
- Due to limited space at the tables, you need to be an AAP Student in order to attend sessions regularly. If you’re interested in joining AAP, visit Campbell Hall 1214 and talk with Axel Hernández.
Here is a schedule for all in-person Physics 1B resources for the quarter: Schedule.
